Evolutionary genomics / Bacterial evolution
Prof. Siv Andersson
The research in my group aims at understanding how microbial genomes evolve. We sequenced the typhus pathogen genome, which was the first genome to be fully sequenced in Sweden (published in Nature 1998). I have since published more than 100 scientific papers and accepted invitations to present my work at more than 100 international conferences during the last 10 years.

Evolutionary genomics / Eukaryotic evolution
Dr. Jan Andersson
The majority of the eukaryotic diversity is microbial. We are using genome sequencing methods to study these organisms. I am especially interested in evolutionary processes affecting the genomes of microbial eukaryotes and how these relate to the enormous phenotypic diversity found in this fascinating group of organisms.
