Department of Comparative Physiology

Research

Present research in our department is focused on comparative physiology with special focus on innate immune reactions in invertebrates and the phylogeny of these processes. We also study invertebrate hematopoiesis, iron homeostasis of Drosophila melanogaster, fish physiology and molecular biology of animal pathogenic fungi.

News

Many insects eat the green leaves of plants but excrete black feces in a yet-unknown mechanism. Insects cannot avoid ingesting pathogens with food that will be specifically detected by the midgut immune system. Read more in Journal of Biological Chemistry February 2012.
