POSTGRADUATE EDUCATION

Procedures for the licentiate examination

The general formalities for the licentiate examination are described in the study plan and the faculty has also posted a checklist for the procedure.

The licentiate thesis should be presented at a seminar during term time, and should be available at the office of the research programme three weeks in advance.

The seminar should be advertised with the following information: author, title, research programme ("forskarutbildnings‰mne"), where the thesis can be viewed, time and place for the seminar. The advertisement should be sent at least three weeks in advance to the departments within the Biology section, to departments in Sweden where the research field is represented, and also be included in the University's calendar.

The seminar, in which the student presents the thesis, is followed by a short opposition from an external examiner. The examiner should be from a different research programme. The decision - pass or fail - is taken by the professor responsible for the programme, in consultation with the supervisor and the examiner.

The licentiate thesis should consist of a short summary (10 - 20 pages) together with one or several papers. The recommended template for the front page of the thesis is available here (Word format).

One copy of the thesis should be delivered to the Biology library at EBC.
